PerspectiveReviews

Code reviews are typically performed from the perspective of application stakeholders; which is to say, the owners of the application in question as well as those of affected subsystems. While this is necessary, it is not particularly effective at catching certain classes of defects that require an orthogonal expertise or a more focused effort. The notion of perspective-based reviews addresses this concern in general and this document describes the methodology used for code analysis/review from a semaphore perspective in particular.

As stated above, a perspective-based review is intended to:

  • focus the responsibility of each inspector
  • minimize the overlap among reviewers
  • provide a subject matter “expert”
